A stable is by far the least natural accommodation for a horse.  Hence, the size of a stable should be in accordance with that of the horse to enable it to move around and lie down without difficulty.

Stable blocks can be built in a U-shape or in a single line, depending on the space available and the number of stables required.  The stable-door opening enables the horse to look out and watch what’s going on.  The horse should be regularly turned out or worked, in order to preserve its equilibrium, thereby preventing the setting in of boredom and nervousness due to being constantly shut in.
